Master Bander Lanny Chambers

Lanny  Chambers holds a master permit from the USGS Bird Banding Laboratory, and has been banding hummingbirds since 1999. In 1995, he created the website to track spring migration and help people be better stewards of their tiny visitors. Lanny's monthly banding sessions at Missouri state parks have been open to the public since 2000.



Master Bander Sumita Prasad

Sumita Prasad is an avid birder, naturalist, world traveler, and a native Texan of Indian descent. She holds a Master Permit from the USGS Bird Banding Laboratory and has been banding for over 17 years. Sumita focuses on banding wintering hummingbirds in the Houston area, but also bands other birds- including songbirds, raptors, pelicans, and more.




Master Bander Susan Heath

 Susan is the Director of Conservation Research at the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory in Lake Jackson, Texas. She holds a Master Permit from the USGS Bird Banding laboratory and has been involved with various banding projects for 16 years. She bands wintering hummingbirds in the Houston and Brazosport areas in addition to her research projects on American Oystercatchers, Wilson’s and Snowy Plovers, Willets and Loggerhead Shrikes.


Banding Demonstration Dates & Times:

Friday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 17 – 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 18 – 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Address: Selected Hummer Home 166 Palmetto in Lamar

Drive: Hwy. 35 north across Copano Bay causeway to Lamar.  Right on Park Road 13 at the Exxon.  Travel approximately 1.2 miles; to the “T” at stop sign.  Left on Park Road 13 (Palmetto Street, opposite from Goose Island State Park sign).  Immediately after crossing 4th Street, turn left into the first driveway on the left.  Park in designated areas.
