Free Event! 15th Annual Gospel Music Festival reverberates through Rockport January 8 through 10

Rockport, Texas (December 7, 2009) – Its impact shaped the south and its sacred songs and hymns became known –alongside Jazz – as the music of our nation.  Gospel music will be celebrated in Rockport-Fulton at the 15th Annual Rockport Gospel Music Festival, January 8 -10, 2010, at the Martha Luigi Auditorium at Rockport-Fulton High School.

The festival began in 1995 as a gospel music concert sponsored by “Rockport’s Gospel Force,” a local quartet made up of members from the city of Rockport Police Department. The goal of the event was to share the sacred songs and hymns, as well as mountain tunes and early blues once freely shared by black and white field hands who brought their fiddles, harmonicas and guitars to make music in the evening shade after a hard day’s work.

It offers visiting Winter Texans the chance to experience a Southern tradition of community, Christian entertainment and praise. The Gospel Music Festival has grown over the last 14 years once serving a few hundred, it now attracts thousands. “Without the consistent support through prayer, attendance and generous contributions of the people, this festival would have never grown to the three-day event that that it is today,” states Music Festival Coordinator Gary Howard.

On Friday, January 8, Rockport’s own “Gospel Force” performs at 6 p.m.  At 9:10 p.m. one of the top headliners, Larry Ford from Fort Myers, FL will perform, followed by another great draw, the Melody Boys Quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas.

Saturday night the toe-tapping and hand-clapping starts at 10 a.m. with performances by the DownEast Boys, one of the top groups in Southern Gospel Music today; the Bailey Family and local choirs.

More than 25 performers will entertain you with non-stop performances of the latest and greatest in Gospel Music. Vendors will sell Gospel music CDs, videos and books.
