115,000 acre Refuge Complex provides habitat for migratory birds, endangered species, including wintering grounds for endangered whooping cranes and other Texas wildlife.  Over 400 species of birds and 1,000 species of plants have been recorded.  The Refuge offers a Visitor Center, 16-mile driving Tour Loop, 7 walking trails, viewing decks, boardwalk and observation tower.  Interpretive Van Tours are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays from January - April.  Monthly Lecture Series  Call for information and reservations.  Nominal entrance fee.

The Fennessey Ranch is 4,000 acres in south Texas and has opened its door to nature tourism.  Located in the heart of the Central Flyway, it is a refuge for hundreds of species of birds.  It is open year round for birding, hunting, hiking and educational tours.  Field guide, Sally Crofutt conducts hummingbird hayrides, hawk watch tours, general birding tours and more.  Call for times and prices.
